Building Description
Originally called the “Brick Factory” and later home to the Nebraska Farmer Periodical, this historic two-story brick building’s redevelopment ignited the transformation of a once barren corridor into the now vibrant “P” Street District. Through the addition of contemporary awnings, new store fronts, enhanced raw-boxes, elevated exterior seating, and a 400-square foot dock, the project expanded and activated the structure while still paying homage to its roots. Upon completion, the building was renamed to honor Governor McKelvie, former chief editor of Nebraska Farmer.
The restoration of the McKelvie building cemented this major downtown corner as a focal point of “P” Street entertainment and shopping. It is aligned with the UNL Student Union and Admissions buildings along 14th Street, a major conduit for student foot traffic between Downtown and Campus, and its neighbor, the City of Lincoln Children's Museum, averages more than 20,000 guests each month.
