The State and City Building is an historic icon in Downtown Roanoke. Located in the heart of the central business district. The renovation of the 107 year-old building became the first LEED certified building in southwest Virginia. The first three floors of the building were built in 1905 in the "classic commercial style," to house the American National Bank. The other five floors, considered to be art deco, were designed by the Roanoke architectural firm of Smithey and Boynton. These floors, which housed the State and City Bank, were added in the 1920's.
