What do you love most about Crexi?

Its intuitive design and usability. It’s easy to add listings and get exposure. The email blast feature makes it simple to export leads and continue marketing properties. It’s also fantastic to see exactly when someone downloads a property flyer – we can take advantage of that momentum and jump on the phone right away. 

Any advice for new brokers?

We train young brokers all the time. I like to use the metaphor of the three phases of driving: 

  • Phase 1: System overload – drinking gasoline from a hose. 
  • Phase 2: Become one with the vehicle, acutely aware of everything. 
  • Phase 3: You drive five miles – you’re zoned out because you know it so well.

In brokerage, the more you can stay in Phase 2, the better. Stay awake and alert because minor daily improvements lead to staggering long-term results.

What would you tell other brokers about Crexi?

Any advice for young brokers?

Have tenacity, enjoy business, be creative, and never stop educating yourself. You need to be willing to put in the hard work and find a good mentor, because education is so important.

What do you love most about Crexi?

I love the ability to email contacts through the platform. The relationships we make crescendo into other deals – one closes, and then another one gets sent to people who searched the past one. It’s a fantastic way to build our network and market listings in the same stroke. 

What would you say to someone on the fence?

It’s super affordable compared to other softwares. It gives you the ability to connect with people looking at your listings instantly. Some properties have got 2,000+ hits over a two-month marketing cycle. Whether they close or not, it creates a competitive environment for people you know: you can access those 2,000 people with Crexi PRO for your next deal. 

Any advice for new brokers?

You have to get a little lucky but beat the pavement in terms of low-hanging fruit. If there’s a space in your town across the street, call the owner and say, “let me lease this space for you.” Start on the small stuff first, and the momentum builds.

What do you love most about Crexi?

This has allowed our entire team to be more efficient and productive with their time, and most importantly, has enabled us to better serve our clients and their commercial real estate needs. What would you say to someone on the fence?

If someone were on the fence about using Crexi PRO, I would tell them that there will be a time in that not-too-distant future where the use of Crexi PRO will be deemed an industry standard. Without Crexi Pro, brokers and investors will be left with antiquated technology and resources versus leveraging an integrated “one-stop” platform. I feel confident that if it has not happened already, Crexi PRO is the future.

Any advice for new brokers?

It is a really exciting time to be working in as well as joining the commercial real estate industry – especially the net lease market. My advice to those starting their career is that integrity, hard-work, and building meaningful relationships are key tenants for success. In an extremely entrepreneurial industry, if you’re motivated by uncapped growth and potential, anything is possible.

Meet Phil Voorhees

Platinum Broker Award: Most Influential

Vice Chairman and Partner at CBRE’s National Retail Partners-West. Before joining CBRE and its Private Capital Group in Newport Beach (CBRE’s first Private Capital Group team nationally) in 2001, Voorhees worked for an Orange County-based retail developer specializing in site acquisition and brokerage of “coastal commercial” properties in Southern California. 

In 2007, Philip Voorhees and Todd Goodman merged their teams to form the National Retail Partners – West team, combining Voorhees’s private capital expertise and systematic, database-driven marketing approach with Goodman’s deep experience with institutional clients and anchored centers. 

Voorhees was also CBRE’s #1 retail investment broker nationally in 2015, closing 63 transactions over $947 million in value with his NRP-West teammates. In 2018, Voorhees and the NRP-West team closed 67 transactions for approximately $1 billion. Voorhees also earned the title of Vice Chairman, CBRE’s highest producer title, and one of only two Vice Chairmen in retail.
