Property History
The 44-room, art-deco-styled Streamline Hotel is, literally, the birthplace of NASCAR. Upon its opening in 1940, the Streamline quickly became a popular refuge for celebrities,
race car drivers and various moonshine gangsters and other folk heros of the day. In 1947, Bill France Sr., along with numerous other drivers, officials and race promoters,
gathered in the hotel’s rooftop bar and, after many libations and much deliberation, signed a “declaration” that created the organization that has grown to become the National
Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR).
Lest we forget our past, it was the bootlegger boys of the prohibition era – and their need for speed – who first started “souping up” their personal (stock) cars to help them out
run the federales. With the end of prohibition in 1933, these same daredevils – forever addicted to the thrill of the chase – begain stock car racing in a multitude of locations
at mostly ad hoc events. It was Bill France and his cohorts at the Streamline, then, that gave structure to the sport and that has resulted in the “let’s go racing” format that all the
world now associates first and foremost with the Daytona 500.
After many changes of ownership and uses over the years – if only those walls could talk! – the Streamline was acquired by the locally based Owner in 2014. From 2014 to
2017, they completed a meticulous and lovingly executed $6.5 million ($148,000 per guestroom) restoration of the Property that resulted in a fully modernized, multi-faceted
“experiential” hospitality showcase that features the best of lodging, food and beverage, special event components…and Florida history.
