Before becoming the Jay Clinic under Dr. Ernest Jay—an osteopathic physician and surgeon in the 1950s—the site served multiple roles in the growth of Downtown Panama City. During its years as a medical clinic, many local families welcomed children here, creating memories that still resonate across the region. In later decades, the building adapted to changing community needs, housing attorney services, bail bonds, and hearing specialists until it ultimately succumbed to Hurricane Michael in 2018.
Acquired in Q1 2025, the property has since undergone careful preservation and a full structural transformation. The rebuild includes poured-concrete fortification, new trusses, complete reframing, and entirely new plumbing and electrical systems. While the structure is now effectively brand-new, key exterior design elements have been thoughtfully preserved. The interior has also been elevated—literally—with newly raised 10-foot ceilings.
Honoring its history and legacy, the building has been renamed The BlueJay Building, also known as The J Building.
