The MacArthur Building is an historic three-story Flatironstyle office building located at 345 East Toole Avenue in downtown Tucson, Arizona, originally constructed in 1907 as the Hotel Heidel to serve railroad passengers arriving at the nearby Southern Pacific Railroad Depot. Designed by the architectural firm Holmes and Holmes, it's reminiscent of New York's Flatiron Building. The approximately 24,266-square-foot structure features large windows offering views of the surrounding downtown and mountains, and it was renamed the MacArthur Hotel in 1944 in honor of General Douglas MacArthur. Originally equipped with amenities like a restaurant, barbershop, and cigar shop, it hosted travelers until closing as a hotel in 1979, after which it was converted to office space in the mid-1980s. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, it was delisted in 1984 following subsequent modernization alterations that included facade additions and window replacements, yet it retains much of its original character as a landmark in Tucson's vibrant business district. After an approximate $2,000,000 major renovation in 2009, the building continues to function as an attractive contemporary Class A office property, while preserving its historic appeal.
