The former Bayer CropScience site was stranded for over 10 years perceived as an environmentally challenged property. The acquisition by Organic Capital Fund LLC and application into the Georgia Brownfields program provides liability protection to prospective purchasers of contaminated properties from third party claims arising from past releases and groundwater cleanup. EPA’s Brownfields program empowers states, communities, and other stakeholders to work together to prevent, assess, safely clean up, and sustainably reuse brownfields. Revitalizing brownfield sites creates benefits throughout the community. Through this program Organic Capital Fund will be able to reuse existing infrastructure prevent additional environmental degradation from building on green fields, and restore 878 acres of heavy industrial property zoned I-G for redevelopment.
