3917 Lindell Blvd
Mixed Use | 6,890 SqFt
Marketing description
3917 Lindell was built in 1977 during the final stages of St. Louis’s Mid Century Modern (MCM) building phase. St. Louis is widely known throughout the United States for the dozens of significant MCM structures and the subject asset is one of the highest profile examples given its distinct setting on the heavily traveled Lindell Boulevard. The property was built as a satellite branch for the Auto Club of St. Louis and was designed by Peruvian born architect W.A. (“Wence”) Sarmiento. Sarmiento explored the application of classical formal principles to a rounded building form that symbolically adopted the shape of the national AAA logo. The one-story building is elliptical in shape, and placed at an angle on the site so that the main entrance faces Lindell Boulevard on a southwest diagonal axis. While the property is not currently on the National Register of Historic Places since it is less than 50 years old, the City of St. Louis’s Cultural Resource Office (“CRO”) considers the building to be one of the Top 25 most significant Mid Century Modern design commercial properties in the area. As such, a potential adaptive redevelopment of the site is allowed however any new design would have to incorporate the structure itself as the basis of a project going forward.
