Oceanview and Pala Chief Mines, Elizabeth R Claim
Active Gem Mining Business for the Public and Professional Digs with pieces in the Smithsonian.
Marketing description
This ongoing business of touring and digging for gems is a lucrative business with the general public, school tours including Universities that bring their up and coming gemologists to camp or stay on the land and digging for days at a time, to GIA who visits for a week at a time annually to study and share with their society of gemologists the gem finds at Pala; and elementary school groups with 70+ students at one time. Daily digs are $75/person with some discounts for elementary level gem diggers. These schools and tours and booked months in advance and sometimes yearly. The revenue on a typical day could range from $3,500- $6,500 for entrance fees. Currently, the owner only has these digs open to the public 2-3 days a week with weekends being for the public. A owner-user could chose to open these digs up more frequently to add to the "Gate Income" for this business. The owner uses the rest of the week for "Professional digs" including blasting and excavating finds from inside the many mining tunnels below ground. The videos below will give you a view to interiors, tours and visitor finds from this famous mind. Seller is willing to stay on and teach a new owner how to make this business grow and keep going. There is still so much untouched land showing specific signs as new sites and pockets to be explored by a buyer. There are hundreds of videos from visitors telling you about their random finds while visiting. A few selected are attached.
Beyond the digging ventures that allow this mine to prosper there are two mine support buildings that operate as temporary housing structures for the professional miners that excavate for a living. These mine support buildings are required by law as you must provide a place to eat, sleep, bathe and wash clothing for professional miners. These also allow for larger groups or students to rent out up to a week at a time to study, dig and learn about mining. The mine has many untouched areas with outside showings that there may be many other untapped strings of veins and or "pockets" yet to be discovered.
1907 Dr. Kunz from Tiffany Discovers Kunzite from Pala Chief Mine and names it after himself. Today the owner has significant Kunzite finds from just his years as owner and they are sitting in the Smithsonian next to the Tiffany Diamond. Many other finds are in other museums and appear at gem shows.
These two mines operate completely off the grid with solar, well, water runoff recapture and more. Multiple parcels- and multiple Out Buildings to serve the tours and miners including a full outdoor built in restroom at main tourist site for weekend gem seekers. A wide variety of fruit trees and agriculture exist on the property as well.
See some of the videos below for finds, property, interiors and tours from visitors.
