Blythe is a city in East Riverside County, California. It is in the Palo Verde Vally of the lower Colorado River Valley region. It is approximately 224 miles east of Los Angeles and 150 miles west of Phoenix. It is a passthrough city between Los Angeles and Arizona, a stopover spot for many truck drivers or travellers. It is a popular retreat for hikers, campers, fishers in summer and people trying to avoid the cold weather from the north in winter. Blythe was named after Thomas Henry Blythe, a San Francisco financier who established primary water rights to the Colorado River in the region in 1877. The city was incorporated in 1916.

Blythe is located near the California/Arizona border, at the junction of Interstate 10 and US 95. It has a total of 27 square miles, of which 26.2 square mile is land and 0.8 square mile is water.

Tourism is a major component. It is a stopover city with full services for travellers and truck drivers between Los Angeles and Phoenix. It is a stopover city and retreat for hikers, campers, fishers in summer and people avoiding the cold weather from the north in winter.
