The Newby Hills Ranch is rich in history, wildlife and natural resources. It was owned by the same family for over 100 years spanning five generations & ran for many years as a successful sheep and goat operation, with cattle and horses as secondary livestock. Abundant wildlife flourishes on the Newby Hills Ranch. Whitetail, axis, and fallow deer are all common, along with aoudad sheep, and Rio Grande Turkey. This area has an average rainfall of around 22". The ranch lies above the Edwards Aquifer, that extends across much of the southwestern part of the state. The wells on the Newby Hills Ranch are reported to be in the range of 200-400 in depth. Topography is extremely diverse with large rolling hills. Juniper, varieties of oak, mesquite, and other hardwood trees, lotebush, yucca, prickly pear and other forbs are common throughout.
