Perez which is the main drag through town, it leads to all of the down the road
communities such as Hopedale, Delacroix, Reggio, and Pointe la Hache. All of these
communities must use this road to town for all of their goods and services, meaning this
site has a large trade area. Chalmette is a part of the New Orleans MSA but is part of
St. Bernard Parish. There are plans to move the Port of New Orleans to a site downriver
from Chalmette which will be a massive economic driver for the area. Currently the port
which is in the city (upriver) can’t be serviced by the Neo-Panamax ships due to their
size. Moving the port to St. Bernard fixes that problem and gives it some edge against
Houston again.
